Bondaglass-Voss Glass-Fiber Repair Kit
|
Bondaglass-Voss Glass-Fiber repair kit This is the perfect material for repairs and crack to fiberglass ponds. The kit contains all the necessary materials to complete such an operation. At times special modifications are required for situations of making a collar around overflows and drains and this repair kit can provide those alterations with ease. Once the repaired surface is complete and hardened the finished laminate can be sanded and shaped accordingly.
Glass Reinforced Plastic (G.R.P.) is a versatile material. Supplied as a liquid polyester resin used in combination with strong glass fibre it can be formed into or over many shapes. When cured it is hard, rigid and strong but easily filed, primed and painted. A glass fibre and polyester resin laminate is weather and waterproof and resistant to many chemicals.
The Bonda Glass Fibre Kit can be used to repair permanently, holes, cracks, and splits in many materials. G.R.P, metal, wood, concrete and brick. It will also bond to some plastics but not the oily types. P.V.C. polypropylene. Nylon - Note it will dissolve polystyrene (A.B.S).
Because of the easy forming properties, glass fibre is used as a construction and repair material on cars and boats, as well as around the house. It has a wide use for modeling, sculptures and stage props and other replicas of figures or plaques. Polyester resin can be mixed with dry filler powders to form a castable material. G.R.P. is an easy material to use. Providing the instructions are followed and above all the necessary preparations are made before starting work.
Bonda Resin only requires the addition of an easy to mix liquid hardener to be ready to use with Bonda Glass Fibre Mat. When using glass fibre always fray out the edges of any joints so that the overlaps are strong and undetectable. Glass Fibre is whitish in the pack but when the resin impregnates the glass it becomes translucent making it easier to stipple into place. When applying the resin always use a stippling action. When applying several layers ensure that all the air is driven out of the laminate by stippling vigorously. It is preferable to apply the resin and glass fibre ‘wet on wet’ although it will bond perfectly to a cured laminate. It is always best to work with small pieces until experienced.
In general the laminating procedure in making a repair is-as follows:
1.Make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of grease and oil. If necessary sand with a medium grade sandpaper.
2.The ambient temperature is above 10°C (50° F).
3.Prepare all materials required for the job.
4.Apply a coat of catalysed resin.
5.Apply a layer of glass fibre.
6.Stipple on more resin to saturate the mat.
7 Apply additional layers as required.
8 When hardened if a smooth surface is required apply a coat of Bondafiller, which can be flatted
More specific instructions are given on a leaflet included within the G.R.P. Repair Kit.
